How is perfume oil different from a spray?
A spray perfume is mostly alcohol. The alcohol evaporates and lifts the scent into the air around you. Our perfume oil has no alcohol. The scent is carried in organic jojoba and stays close to your skin. It's quieter, more personal, and develops with your body warmth.
What is jojoba and why do you use it?
Jojoba is technically a liquid wax, not an oil and its structure is almost identical to your skin's own sebum. That means it absorbs into your skin rather than sitting on top, carrying the fragrance with it. It doesn't feel greasy and doesn't go rancid the way other carrier oils can. We use certified organic jojoba. It's the only carrier in every bottle.
Is kiln safe for sensitive skin?
Our perfume oils are alcohol-free and blended in certified organic jojoba, so there's none of the drying alcohol that can irritate sensitive skin in traditional sprays.
If you do have sensitive skin, every product page lists the full ingredients and declarable allergens for you to check. If your skin is easily irritated, we recommend a patch test: apply a little to your inner arm and leave 24 hours before wearing.
How should I apply it?
Roll onto your pulse points (the inside of your wrists and behind your ears). These spots generate warmth, which activates and develops the scent. Let it settle for twenty minutes for it to evolve, as perfume oil changes as it meets your skin. Try not to rub your wrists together as that breaks down the top notes faster.
How do I make it last?
Apply to moisturised skin so it absorbs slower. Reapplying once during the day is normal but you can reapply as often as you like depending on how strong or subtle you want it to be.
What's the shelf life?
Jojoba is exceptionally stable and resistant to oxidation. Once opened, we recommend using it within 12 months. Store away from direct sunlight and heat. The amber glass bottles help to protect the perfume also.
What's the difference between kiln originals and kiln impressions?
Both are hand-blended the same way — in certified organic jojoba, alcohol-free, made to wear close.
Originals are our own signature scents, composed by hand from fragrance and essential oils. Because they lean on natural materials, they tend to be softer and a little earthier — skin scents in the truest sense, made to be lived in rather than announced.
Impressions are our take on fragrances you may already love — our interpretation of their style in perfume-oil form. They carry a little more of the polish and projection you'd expect from the scents that inspired them (not the originals, and not affiliated with the brands named).
Same craft, same base — one is purely ours, the other our version of scents that inspire us.
Delivery + Returns
When will I get my order?
Every order is packed by hand in Auckland within 1-3 business days, and it should reach you in 3-5 business days. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with tracking information.
How much is delivery?
We deliver within New Zealand. Standard shipping is $7 (urban) or $10 (rural).
Can I return or exchange a scent?
Because perfume oils are applied to the skin, we can't accept returns for hygiene reasons. If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, email us and we'll sort it out.
